Idaten 韋駄天 ( いだ-てん) also known as Gods or Deities, are supernatural beings born from the thoughts and wishes of sentient creatures.
Description[]
When Idatens come in contact with humans, they tend to present themselves as Gods, which is a correct statement but seems to be far from the whole truth. As explained by Ysley Idatens are more discribed as a phenomenon than a living being, as they appear naturally, and can survive long periods of time alongside nature. Each Idaten possesses abilities that bypass the natural laws of physics, weight manipulation, regenerative abilities and even Magic aren't outside of their reach, as they posses the potential to grow stronger through a special kind of training. Nonetheless even though they have enough power to protect and guide humanity, most of them are normally too self centered or even uninterested to care for the strugles or politics of humans, going so far as to letting them engage in wars or even kill each other. However even with the indifference they show to the brutality in the human world, they do posses a compulsion to help, that compulsion will only appear on the sole ocasion that the extinction of humanity in its entirety is at stake, and to prevent that they can even sacrifice themselves for this purpose.
Characteristics[]
Idatens can be more akin to a phenomena than an actual living being, as they don't require sustenance, can survive to almost any environment, and can regenerate wounds that would kill any ordinary human. According to Ysley, Idatens are extremely influenced by their psyche meaning that as long as they want to become stronger they can continue to develop reaching astouding feats of strength, an example being Rin, that was refered to be able to destroy the entirety of Zoble if she so desired.
Birth: Idatens can manifest naturally some time after a great tragedy, usually involving a large number of humans. This is because Idatens are brought to life by a desire for salvation, meaning that the more despair and suffering there is an area, the greater the chances that one will begin to form. However, Gil's manifestation as an new Idaten might suggest that a kind of powerful catalyst is needed to trigger the process, that catalyst is most likelly a strong ego, which will be the basis for future Idaten's personality and appearance. When the criteria are met, a ''Manifestation Portal'' will appear in the world, it's currently unknown in which places that kind of portal can appear, or if it's location cane be totally at random, in spite of that this is the place where Idaten are originated, serving as a sort of incubator till they are ready to get out. To where that portal is connected or what happens inside is still a mistery. Albeit that being the natural process of formation, when a Idaten is not pulled out forcefully by another Idaten out of the portal, there's a risk that the newborn Idaten will arive without any notion of it's origins or purposes, which can lead to then going rogue untill they understand their nature, a prime example would be Ysley, who was born without any outside interference, and because of his curious nature and lack of humanity, killed a enormous number of humans untill he learned what he was and what the humans were.
- In the case of Gil, we can infer that at her core the most potent wish was to ''Protect the weak'', that idea would shape her personality once she leaved the manifestation portal, as it was the strongest desire in her human heart, however as Hayato was the one to pull her out, his personality mixed within her adding to her the trait ''Seek strength'' which he inherited from Rin. Creating a Idaten who wants to become strong to protect the weak.
- In the case of Paula, Ysley commented that ''she's partially composed of the birds' desires, which gives her the ability to communicate with them''. This statement is the first instance we know of a Idaten being born of something inhuman, meaning that as long as there's a desire for salvation, even animals can partially generate a idaten.
- In the case of Oobami his birth is shrouded in mystery, we know only of some hints of his true nature and his true appearance is unknown. What we know for a fact is that he was born inside the seal of the Demon race, and was a mix of the Idatens that sacrificed themselves to create the seal, and the desires of the Demons that begged for their lives as they all died of famine, meaning that he was not born to protect humanity but to protect the Demons as their only god.
